James Beard Award finalists: Kinch, Kostow, Lee, Grgich

More than a dozen Bay Area chefs, restaurants, bakers and winemakers are shortlisted for 2017 James Beard awards, considered the Oscars of the culinary world.

The Bay Area scored with 2 finalists in both the Outstanding Chef and Best Whole new Restaurant categories. And San Francisco chef-restaurateur Corey Lee’s influence shows up in 3 categories: He’s up for Best Chef in the West; his newest enterprise, In Situ, is a finalist for Best Completely new Restaurant honors; and his acclaimed Benu is an Outstanding Wine Program finalist.

Among those reached the rarefied finalist categories are:

Outstanding Baker: Belinda Leong and Michel Suas, of B. Patisserie in San Francisco.
