Students learn art of color wheels and face geometry

Published Friday March 10

Saratoga artist Holly Van Hart usually paints about 8 hrs. a day, but sometimes she dons a different hat and works an an art docent. She’s been a docent abundant times at Saratoga’s Redwood Middle School, but this year she’s working with the Art Docents of Los Gatos and teaching one day a week at each of the 5 elementary schools in town.

She taught ten 25-minute sessions at Van Meter Elementary on March 2.

“I’m not an art teacher,” Van Hart said. “I just take basic design principles and bring it to their level. We play color games, and I engage them by asking a lot of questions.”

The person 1st question to a group of kindergarten children was, “What is art?”

Article length: About 450 words.
